Abstract teapot and cup by Japanese-American potter Kazuko Matthews, c1980s. Matthews, b. USA 1934, raised in Japan, and returned to USA post-war. Kazuko Kayasuga Matthews attended Mt. San Antonio College, and Chouinard Art Institute, where she studied with Otto and Vivica Heino. Later, she attended Santa Monica College and Scripps College, where she was a student of Paul Soldner. Matthews' work is represented in The Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian American Art Museum; the Marer Collection, Scripps College; Oakland Museum, Oakland CA; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, CA.
