San Antonio College, and Chouinard Art Institute, where she studied with Otto and Vivica Heino. Later, she attended Santa Monica College and Scripps College, where she was a student of Paul Soldner. Matthews' work is represented in The Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian American Art Museum; the Marer Collection, Scripps College; Oakland Museum, Oakland CA; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, CA.
